Orangutans in Kalimantan
BlueBayDivers on Tour
Like every year, so we visited again this year in other locations in Indonesia. On this trip we went on a Klotok in Kalimantan, to the Orang utans in Tanjung Putting National Park.
What is a Klotok? A wooden river boat about 12m by 2m with a roof that forms the upper deck, a great place for viewing the Surrounds, The top deck is also where you want to sleep with a mosquito net covering the whole canopy. Toilet facilities and very basic shower facilities aboard the klotok (boat). That means adventure on a wooden river boat to the orang utans. We flew to Pangkalan Bun and boarded our Klotok ONE PIECE in Kumai. The crew members welcomed us very friendly and the Kaptain YEPI drove uns through the river landscape of the national park. Fendi, the local guide and Monal, our one-and-only tour guide from Manado made this adventure to an unique nature experience.
Already on the shore of the river we could see „Dutch Monkeys“, Makaks and hornbills. ONE PIECE brought us to the various feeding stations of the National Parks (Tanjung Harapan, Pondok Tangguy) and to the highlight of that trip – Camp Leakey. There we got to know Tom, the alpha male of the clan. Mario, a young animal of about 5-6 years received our Klotok already at the landing jetty and wanted us to observe our lunch. Ranny, a female, has made friendship with us and wanted to walk hand in hand. An unforgettable experience !! would like to express our gratitude and thanks to Monal – Sultan Tours – , who organized this trip and accompanied us.
